O portador de esclerose múltipla e suas formas de enfrentamento frente à doença / The bearer of multiple sclerosis and methods of facing forward to disease

RESUMO

A Esclerose Múltipla é uma doença do sistema nervoso central considerada desmielinizante, pois causa danos na mielina que reveste as fibras nervosas destinadas à medula espinhal e aos impulsos do cérebro e do nervo óptico. Muitos são os sentimentos que os portadores desta doença possuem desde que recebem o diagnóstico até o momento em que assumem possuir Esclerose Múltipla. Diante desse contexto a presente pesquisa buscou conhecer as formas de enfrentamento utilizadas por pacientes com Esclerose Múltipla em relação à doença. De forma mais específica foi verificado qual o conhecimento que esses portadores têm sobre Esclerose Múltipla, quais são as possíveis limitações e adaptações e os sentimentos gerados após o diagnóstico. Trata-se de uma pesquisa de cunho exploratório qualitativo que contou com cinco participantes e teve como instrumento a entrevista semiestruturada. Os dados foram analisados por meio da análise de conteúdo proposta por Moraes (1999). Os resultados apontaram que os sujeitos entrevistados buscam realizar o seu enfrentamento por meio de informações e de adaptação necessária de acordo com cada individualidade. A raiva, o medo e o conformismo são os sentimentos mais encontrados.

ABSTRACT

Multiple sclerosis is a disease of the central nervous system considered as ademyelinating disease because it causes damage to the myelin that coats nerve fibers for the impulses to the brain, optic nerve and spinal cord. Many are the feelings that patients with this disease have since the start of receiving the diagnosis until the time to take to be a bearer of Multiple Sclerosis. Therefore, it is hoped will learn ways of coping used by patients with multiple sclerosis in relation to this disease. In more specific terms which shall be verified that these carriers have knowledge about MS, what possible limitations and adaptations and the feelings generated after diagnosis. This is a qualitative exploratory research that had five participants and the instrument was semi-structured interview. Data were analyzed using content analysis proposed by Moraes (1999). The results showed that the interviewees wish to accomplish their coping through information and necessary adjustment in accordance with each individual. Anger, fear and conformism are the feelings found.
