RESUMO
Introdução:
Com a notificação de que o filho recém-nascido é uma criança com deficiência, vem a dor, frustração, angústia, medo, insegurança, culpa e muitos outros sentimentos. Modificamseas relações sociais, familiares e estruturais que abalam o equilíbrio familiar.Objetivo:
Compreender a perspectiva destes pais acerca do conceito da deficiência visual e da inclusão familiar.Método:
Questionário auto-aplicável a 20 pais de criançascom idade entre 0 e 36 meses.Resultados:
A média das idades das crianças foi de 24,8 meses; 35% dospais afirmaram terem sido os primeiros a perceber o problema visual dos filhos, enquanto o restante foi informado pelo médico. A média das idades da criança no início da estimulação visual foi de13,4 meses, variando de 1 a 33 meses. Ao serem questionadas sobre o conhecimento das leis que assistem ao deficiente visual, 60% das mães informaram desconhecê-las. O medo da discriminação foi a maior angústia dos pais em relação ao futuro destas crianças.Conclusão:
O encaminhamentoprecoce pelo pediatra e a criação de programas de formação e de custeio de equipes multidisciplinares devem ser incentivados.ABSTRACT

With the notification of theparents that the newborn is a visual deficient child comes the pain, frustration, anguish, fear, insecurity,guilt and many other feelings. Change comes on the social and familial relations structure.Objective:
To understand the perspective of these parents about the concept of visual disability and family inclusion.Methods:
Survey with self-administered questionnaire to 20 parents of children aged between 0 and 36 months.Results:
Mean age of children was24.8 months; 35% of parents said they were the first to perceive the visual problem of the children while the rest was told by the doctor. The mean age of the child at the beginning of visual stimulation was 13.4 months, ranging 1-33 months. When asked aboutknowledge of the laws that assist mothers of children with visually impaired 60% reported ignoring them.Fear of discrimination was the greatest anguish of parents regarding the future of these children.Conclusion:
The early referral by the pediatrician and the creation of training programs and funding of multidisciplinary teams should be encouraged.
