RESUMO
JUSTIFICATIVA E OBJETIVOS:
Em função das plurais manifestações clínicas durante sua evolução, a esquistossomose mansônica(EM) pode se assemelhar a inúmeras outras doenças, dificultando o diagnóstico, retardando o tratamento e a notificação da moléstia. Rever tais aspectos da EM é o escopo do presente artigo.Para tal, foi realizada revisão da literatura utilizando as bases Scielo (Scientific Eletronic Library Online) e PubMed (National Library ofMedicine), assim como livros texto relacionados ao tema. CONTEÚDO Múltiplas são as manifestações clínicas da EM, destacando-se que os exames laboratoriais e os métodos complementares têm demonstrado relevância no diagnóstico e acompanhamento das alterações morfológicas e funcionais da doença. O tratamento abrange estratégias farmacológicas e, por vezes, intervenções cirúrgicas. A EM continua sendo um importante problema de saúde pública no Brasil. Áreas de endemicidade guardam relação com o nível socioeconômico ao qual a população pertence, também está condicionada aos entraves de controle da doença por órgãos públicos.CONCLUSÃO:
Torna-se importante conhecer os elementos atinentes ao diagnóstico clínico e laboratorial, bem como ao tratamento, à epidemiologia, à profilaxia e ao controle da EM aspecto extremamente relevante para a condução dos pacientes vitimados pela doença.ABSTRACT
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES:
Because of the many clinical manifestations during its evolution, the mansonic schistosomiasis (MS) can be similar to countless other diseases, difficulty the diagnosis and slowing down the treatment and notice of the illness.Review the aspects of the MS is the scope of the present article. Forsuch, a review has been made of this literature using the basis of Scielo (Scientific Electronic Library Online) and PubMed (National Library of Medicine), as much as text books related to this subject. CONTENTS The clinical manifestations of MS are many, distinguishing that the lab exams and other complementary methods have shown relevance on the diagnosis and follow-up of the morphological and functional changes of the disease. The treatment includes pharmacological strategies and, at times, surgical interventions. The MS is still an important public health problem in Brazil. Endemic areas have a relation with the social and economic level to which the population belongs, and they are also conditioned with the barriers of disease control by public agencies.CONCLUSION:
It becomes extremely important to know the elements pertaining to the clinical and laboratory diagnostics, as much as the treatment of the disease. It is essential to know the epidemiology, prophylaxis and control of the MS; those are aspects extremely relevant for the conduction of the ill victimized by this disease.Key words
