El síndrome de West es un tipo de epilepsia que se presenta principalmente en edades tempranas, se caracteriza por la tríada clásica de espasmos epilépticos, retardo del desarrollo psicomotor y electroencefalograma hipsarrítmico, aunque uno de estos elementos puede estar ausente, desde el punto de vista etiológico se clasifica en idiopático, criptogénico y sintomático.
