Comportamiento de la osteoartritis de la rodilla en un grupo de pacientes venezolanos / Behavior of knee osteoarthritis in a group of patients from Venezuela

RESUMEN

Las enfermedades degenerativas articulares constituyen una causa importante de dolor y pérdida de la función, entre ellas la articulación de la rodilla es una de las más afectadas. Objetivo: mostrar el comportamiento de la osteoartritis de rodilla en un grupo de pacientes Venezolanos. Método: se realizó un estudio descriptivo y transversal en 152 pacientes diagnosticados y tratados por osteoartritis de la rodilla atendidos en la consulta de ortopedia y traumatología de la ASIC UD-1, Caricuao, Distrito Capital en la República Bolivariana de Venezuela desde julio 2008 hasta julio 2009. Resultados: predominó significativamente el sexo femenino en un 73,6 %, la edad promedio fue de 62,7 años. Las causas más frecuentes de osteoartritis secundaria fueron: deformidad angular 50 %, post-quirúrgicas 5,2 %, trauma 3,9 % e infecciosas 3,2 %. La afección bicompartimental representó la mayor incidencia en un 40,7 %. El estadio radiográfico que predominó fueron el grado dos y tres de Kellgram con un 42,1 % y 35,5 % respectivamente. La osteoartritis de la articulación de cadera fue las más encontrada asociada a la de rodilla con un 60,6 %. Conclusiones: la osteoartritis de la rodilla es más frecuente en el sexo femenino de la población Venezolana estudiada y especialmente la afección bicompartimental.

ABSTRACT

Articular degenerative diseases constitute an important cause of pain and loss of function, among them knee joint is one of the most affected. Objective: to show the behavior of knee osteoarthritis in a group of patients from Venezuela. Method: a descriptive and cross-sectional study was performed in 152 patients diagnosed and treated by knee osteoarthritis attended in the orthopedic and traumatology consultation ASIC UD-1, Caricuao, Principal District in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela from July 2008 to July 2009. Results: The female sex in a 73,6 % consisted significantly; the mean age was about 62,7 years. The most frequent causes of secondary osteoarthritis were: angular deformity 50 %, post-surgical 5,2 %, trauma 3,9 % and infectious ones 3.2 %. Bicompartmental affection represented the greater incidence in a 40,7 %. The radiographic stage that prevailed was the grade two and three of Kellgram with a 42,1 % and 35,5 % respectively. Osteoarthritis of hip articulation was the most associate to the knee one with a 60,6 %. Conclusions: knee osteoarthritis is more frequent in the female sex of the studied Venezuela’s population and especially bicompartmental affection.
