Eficacia del tratamiento acupuntural en pacientes con urgencias hipertensivas en la atención primaria de salud / Acupunctural therapy effectiveness in patients with hypertensive emergencies in the primary health care

RESUMEN

Se efectuó un ensayo clinicoterapéutico, aleatorio y controlado de 108 pacientes con hipertensión arterial, quienes acudieron al Cuerpo de Guardia del Policlínico Docente Julián Grimau García de Santiago de Cuba, en el período comprendido de enero a septiembre del 2006, con vistas a evaluar la eficacia del tratamiento acupuntural en ellos, cuya condición fue catalogada como urgencia hipertensiva. La casuística quedó distribuida en 2 grupos de estudio y control, con 54 integrantes en cada caso los primeros tratados con acupuntura y los segundos con fármacos, pero a todos se les realizaron los diagnósticos occidental y tradicional oriental. Entre las variables analizadas figuraron edad, sexo, escolaridad, manifestaciones clínicas expresadas por el paciente antes de iniciar el tratamiento, hábitos tóxicos y evaluación del plan terapéutico 60 minutos después de iniciado. Para la validación estadística de la información obtenida se emplearon el porcentaje, el test de Ji al cuadrado de homogeneidad y la prueba de hipótesis de comparación de medias. Los resultados se consideraron buenos en 98,1 % de los pacientes del grupo de estudio, lo cual corroboró que esa técnica milenaria fue eficaz para controlar la elevación de la tensión arterial en la población estudiada.

ABSTRACT

A clinical-therapeutical, randomized, and controlled trial of 108 patients with hypertension, who were attended at the Emergency Room from Julián Grimau García Teaching Polyclinic in Santiago de Cuba, was carried out during the period of time comprised between January and September, 2006 in order to assess the acupunctural therapy effectiveness in them, whose condition was evaluated as hypertensive emergency. The case material was divided into two groups study and control, with 54 subjects in each case; the first patients were treated with acupuncture and the second subjects followed drug regimen, but all of them underwent Western and traditional Chinese Medicine Diagnosis. Age, gender, educational level, clinical manifestations reported by the patient before starting the treatment, toxic habits, and assessment of the therapeutic plan 60 minutes after starting it were the analyzed variables. Percentage, the chi square test of homogeneity, and the hypothesis test of mean comparison were used for the statistical validation of the obtained data. Results were considered good in 98,1 % of the patients belonging to the study group. It showed that this ancient technique was effective to control the increased blood pressure in the studied population.
