Reseñas martianas sobre la fiebre amarilla / Reviews of Martí on yellow fever

RESUMEN

La fiebre amarilla, en el siglo XIX, fue uno de los problemas sanitarios que mayor impacto tuvo en el mundo. Los científicos de todas las regiones se empeñaron en encontrar su causa así como el tratamiento eficaz. Sin embargo, el resultado en general de tanto esfuerzo fue desalentador. Cuba no estuvo libre de este azote, por el contrario, fue uno de sus principales focos y la comunidad científica no se encontró ajena a las investigaciones en torno a este morbo, encabezada por el eminente médico camagüeyano Carlos Juan Finlay y Barré (1833-1915). Varios artículos sobre las investigaciones que se venían realizando en diversas partes del mundo en relación con la fiebre amarilla, en la misma época en que el sabio cubano había dado a conocer sus trascendentales estudios, aparecieron redactados por la pluma del Héroe Nacional José Martí Pérez (1853-1895). Infortunadamente los trabajos de Finlay no aparecieron referidos en estos apuntes a pesar de que ya eran conocidos aunque no aceptados ni comprendidos por los médicos no solo de Cuba sino también de otros países...

ABSTRACT

Yellow fever in the nineteenth century, was one of the health problems had the greatest impact in the world. Scientists from all regions were determined to find the cause and effective treatment. However, the overall result of much effort was disappointing. Cuba was not free of this scourge, however, was one of its main sources and the scientific community was not found outside research on this morbid, headed by the eminent physician Carlos Juan Finlay Camaguey and Barré (1833-1915 ). Several articles on the research already carried out in various parts of the world in relation to yellow fever, at the same time the Cuban scholar had made known its important studies appeared drawn by the pen of National Hero José Martí Pérez (1853-1895). Unfortunately Finlay's work did not appear in these notes referred to in spite of already known but not accepted or understood by doctors not only Cuba but also elsewhere...
