RESUMEN
Se analizaron 32 pacientes con sustitución esofágica subtotal o total efectuada en el período de 1994 a 1998, en los hospitales clinicoquirúrgicos "Carlos J. Finlay" de Ciudad de La Habana y "Joaquín Castillo Duany" de Santiago de Cuba, por estegnosis maligna en 25 enfermos (78,1 %). La esofagectomía transhiatal se empleó en 21 pacientes (65,7 %) y la resección por toracotomía en 2 (6,2 %). El órgano traspuesto fue el estómago en 23 enfermos (70,8 %), seguido del yeyuno (5) y del colon (4). Entre las complicaciones se presentaron 5 estenosis y 4 fístulas cervicales. La mortalidad operatoria del cáncer fue del 20 % y del 14,2 % para la estenosis benigna.
ABSTRACT
32 patients with subtotal or total esophageal substitution performed between 1994 and 1998 at "Carlos J. Finlay" Hospital, in Havana City, and at "Joaquin Castillo Duany" Hospital, in Santiago de Cuba, were studied. This surgical procedure was used in 25 patients due to malignant stenosis (78.1 %). Transhiatal esophagectomy was carried out in 21 patients (65.7 %) and resection by thoracotomy in 2 (6.2 %). The esophagus was substituted for the stomach in 23 patients (70.8 %), followed by the jejunum (5) and the colon (4). 5 stenoses and 4 cervical fistulas were among the complications. The operative mortality from cancer and benign stenosis was 20 % and 14.2 %, respectively.
