Psicología ascética y psicología epistémica / Ascetic psychology and epistemic psychology

RESUMEN

En psicología las tendencias ascéticas (purificación, cuidado y transformación del alma) y epistémicas (conocimiento sistemático sobre el alma), presentes desde la antigüedad hasta nuestros días, son evidencia del fundamento irrenunciable que la filosofía representa para esta disciplina. Con la ciencia moderna y su paradigma galileano algunos pensadores creyeron posible dejar atrás el pasado filosófico y hacer de la psicología una ciencia natural. El presente artículo destaca que esa herencia filosófica es esencial en la psicología, señala que no todas sus escuelas pretenden constituirse en ciencia, y muestra que las tendencias ascéticas y epistémicas pueden articularse dialécticamente en la psicología.

ABSTRACT

Two tendencies have been present in psychology since antiquity to our days the ascetic tendency (purification, self care and transformation of the soul) and the epistemic tendency (systematic knowledge of the soul). Both of them are evidence of the undeniable philosophical foundation of psychology. With modern science and its Galilean paradigm, some thinkers believed that it was possible to leave behind the philosophical past and turn psychology into a natural science. This paper emphasizes that philosophical inheritance is essential for psychology and points out that not all the schools in that discipline intend to become a science. Finally, the paper shows that ascetic and epistemic tendencies can be dialectically articulated in psychology.
