Oportunidades prra la salud mental dentro del sistema general de seguridad social e ssalud / Opportunities for Mental Health within the General System of Social Security in Health

RESUMEN

El presente artículo parte de una descripción de las características del antiguo sistema de salud, en la que se resaltan las falencias que presentaba y que obligaron a hacer reestructuraciones para llegar a plantear el nuevo sistema general de seguridad social en salud (SGSSS), el cual, a pesar de tener un marco filosófico sólido, presenta dificultades para su implementación. No obstante, así como nos enfrenta a situaciones de difícil manejo, también brinda oportunidades de desarrollo profesional en salud mental, diferentes de la tradicional área asistencial.

ABSTRACT

The article begins with a description of the characteristics of the old health system in Colombia, outlining its weaknesses, which forced a restructuration, generating the new General Health System of Social Security (Sistema General de Seguridad Social en Salud - SGSSS). Even though the new System has a solid philosophical foundation, it has caused difficulties. Nonetheless, aside from situations which are hard to manage; the new System has also brought forth new opportunities for professional development in mental health, different form the traditional assistance area.
