RESUMO
Este artigo propõe a prática do canto na terceira idade como uma prazerosa ferramenta terapêutica e preventiva para melhorar a atitude corporal e estimular a atividade mental. Através do aprendizado e do emprego consciente dos processos que fundamentam o exercício dessa arte, como a respiração e o relaxamento das tensões musculares, é possível obter benefícios como o aumento da capacidade pulmonar, a quebra da rigidez corporal e a percepção das sensações físicas internas, resultando num autoconhecimento do corpo. Enfatiza ainda que essa prática representa um investimento não apenas na manutenção saudável como também no aprimoramento estético de um expressivo traço de identidade do indivíduo e importante veículo de comunicação e aproximação social - a voz -, trazendo melhorias para a autoestima, a autoimagem e a segurança. Finalmente, destaca o estímulo que o canto, enquanto linguagem musical, pode representar para as regiões do cérebro responsáveis pelas funções neurológicas relacionadas às ações motoras, linguísticas e sensoriais.
ABSTRACT
This study proposes the practice of singing at elderly age as a powerful and therapeutic preventing tool in order to improve body and mental activities. Through learning and consciousness of the processes that bases singing, such as breathing and muscle resting, it is possible to get benefits like increasing of pulmonary breathing capacity, body muscular tension relaxation and inner physical perception. This results in knowledge of ones own body. It emphasizes that singing represents not only an investment on health but improvement of esthetical and expressive identity, voice is understood as an important way of communication and social relationship resource. It makes self esteem, self confidence and self image stronger. Finally this study shows how singing, as musical language can stimulate brain regions in charge of neurological functions related to language, sensation a motor skills.
