RESUMO
Objetivos: avaliar a conduta e conhecimento dos endocrinologistas da cidade do Rio de Janeiro diante do possível envolvimento entre a diabete mellitus (DM) e a doença periodontal (DP). Métodos: através de perguntas via e-mail foram entrevistados cinquenta (50) endocrinologistas. As respostas tiveram caráter confidencial e foram pertinentes a pesquisa. Resultados: foram avaliados 58% do gênero masculino e 42% gênero feminino, com idades variando de 27 a 70 anos. Dos 50 endocrinologistas entrevistados 90% conhecem e 10% desconhecem o que é DP; 68 confirmam e 32% não sabem a existência de uma possível relação entre a DP e a DM; 46% perguntam e 54% negam perguntar na anamnese sobre a visita ao dentista; 90% afirmam e 10% discordam sobre algum paciente ter relatado problema na gengiva; 66% já e 34% não perguntaram ao paciente sobre a saúde bucal; 64% afirmaram e 36% nunca se comunicaram com algum dentista; 60% notaram melhora no controle glicêmico em pacientes com boa saúde bucal e 40% não avaliaram a saúde bucal; 50% já leram e 50% nunca leram algum artigo relacionando a DP e a DM; 76% iriam a um curso relacionando ambos os temas (DP e DM) e 24% não iriam; 100% acham possível uma maior aproximação profissional entre ambas as classes (médica e odontológica). Conclusão: a relação bi-direcional entre a DM e a DP, deverá haver no futuro uma maior integração entre endocrinologistas e Cirurgiões-dentistas para que haja uma melhora na qualidade de vida do paciente.
ABSTRACT
Objective: Evaluate the conduct and knowledge of cardiologists in the city of Rio de Janeiro state on the possible involvement of diabetes mellitus (DM) and periodontal disease (PD). Methods: Through questions sent by email were interviewed fifty endocrinologists. The answers were confidential and were appropriate for search. Results: We evaluated 58% of males and 42% females, with ages ranging from 27 to 70 years. The fifty endocrinologist interviewed, 90% knew and 10% don’t know what PD is; 68% confirmed and 32% don’t know the existence of a possible relationship between PD and DM; 46% ask and 54% don’t ask in anamnesis about a visit to the dentist; 90% agree and 10% disagree that some patients reported any problem with gum; 66% ask and 34% don’t question the patients about oral health; 64% have had and 36% hadn’t any communication with dentist yet; 60% noticed improvement in glycemic control in patients with good oral health and 40% did not asses oral health; 50% have read and 50% have never read an article linking the PD and DM; 76% would like to go to a course linking both issues (DM and PD) and 24% wouldn’t like; 100% thought possible a closer professional relationship between both classes (doctors and dentists). Conclusion: The bi-directional relationship between the DM and PD should provide in the future a greater integration between endocrinologists and dentist for which there is an improvement in quality of life of both patients.
