Salvar la vida o prolongar la agonía? / Save life or to prolong the agony?

RESUMEN

En el presente trabajo se exponen consideraciones históricas, religiosas, jurídicas y ético-médicas que tienen como propósito participar del debate bioético desde los principios de beneficencia y autonomía en torno a la eutanasia voluntaria y tratar de responder a la pregunta si, en algunos casos, lo que debe prevalecer es el derecho a la vida como valor supremo o, por el contrario, es la dignidad humana y la calidad de vida las que deben considerarse como máximos valores de la existencia. Es decir, si a ultranza y contra la voluntad del paciente, en la sociedad laica del presente, lo que se debe es salvar la vida, por encima de cualquier consideración, aun a costa de prolongar innecesariamente la agonía del paciente.

ABSTRACT

This paper presents historical, religious, legal and medical ethical are intended to participate in the bioethical debate from the principles of beneficence and autonomy regarding voluntary euthanasia and try to answer the question whether in some cases, is what must prevail the right to life as a supreme value, or otherwise, is human dignity and quality of life that should be considered as maximum values of existence. That is, if extreme and against the will of the patient, in this secular society, which is due is to save life, above any consideration, even at the cost of unnecessarily prolonging the agony of the patient.
