RESUMO

OBJETIVO:

Comparar os dados topográficos de pacientes com ceratocone entre os sistemas de avaliação Orbscan IIz® (Bausch & Lomb, Rochester, New York, USA) e Wavetek Chroma®.

MÉTODOS:

Foram avaliados em 29 pacientes com diagnóstico clínico e topográfico de ceratocone atendidos no Hospital Oftalmológico de Sorocaba em março de 2010. Para a comparação dos dados foram avaliados os índices dióptricos dos meridianos mais curvo e mais plano (Sim K) a 3 mm e 5 mm centrais da córnea e ceratometria máxima através dos topógrafos Orbscan IIz® e Wavetek Chroma®.

RESULTADOS:

Foram realizados exames em 58 olhos de 29 pacientes com ceratocone. Na avaliação da ceratometria máxima, o Orbscan IIz® registrou 79,31% olhos e o Wavetek Chroma® conseguiu captura em 100%. Nas áreas mais curvas, mais planas e suas médias a 5 mm do centro corneano, ocorreu diferença estatisticamente significante apenas na primeira variável (intervalo de confiança de 95% -0,51 a -2,46, p=0,004), sendo que no Orbscan IIz® a ceratometria foi de 46,91 (desvio padrão 2,92), enquanto que no Wavetek Chroma® foi 48,4 (desvio padrão 4,48).

CONCLUSÃO:

O novo aparelho Wavetek Chroma® pode auxiliar na obtenção da imagem topográfica de pacientes com ceratocone quando não for possível com o Orbscan IIz® na medida da ceratometria máxima, meridiano mais plano e média a 5mm do centro corneano.
ABSTRACT

PURPOSE:

To compare topographic features of patients with keratoconus between two systems Orbscan IIz® (Bausch & Lomb, Rochester, New York, USA) and Wavetek Chroma®.

METHODS:

Twenty-nine patients that were diagnosed with keratoconus based on clinical and topographic characteristics were evaluated on their visit to Ophthalmology Hospital of Sorocaba in March 2010. Topographic variables, like maximum and minimum keratometric readings (Sim K) within 3 and 5 mm of central zone, and maximum keratometry, were analyzed by Orbscan IIz® and Wavetek Chroma®.

RESULTS:

A total of 58 eyes of 29 patients with keratoconus were enrolled in this study. Considering maximum keratometry, Orbscan IIz® registered 79.31% eyes whrereas Wavetek Chroma® 100%. Analysing maximum and minimum keratometric readings and average at 5mm of central zone occurred a statistically significant difference at the first parameter (95% confidence limits -0.51 to -2.46, p=0.004), the keratometric reading by Orbscan IIz® was 46.91 (standard deviation 2.92), whereas Wavetek Chroma® was 48,4 (standard deviation 4.48).

CONCLUSION:

The new instrument Wavetek Chroma® could help to map topographically eyes with keratoconus which could not be measured using the Orbscan IIz® at maximum keratometry, minimum keratometric and average reading at 5 mm of central zone.
