Conocimiento de adolescentes asmáticos sobre su enfermedad / The asthmatic adolescents' knowledge about their disease

RESUMEN

El asma en la actualidad se manifiesta como un padecimiento de creciente ascenso. Es la más común de las afecciones crónicas en la población adulta e infantil del mundo desarrollado, donde la padecen más de 5 por ciento de sus pobladores. Se estima que esta enfermedad provoca entre 1 y 2 millones de muertes por año. Se realizó un estudio descriptivo, transversal en una Escuela Secundaria Básica Urbana de La Habana en el período entre enero de 2010 y marzo del 2011. Se encuestó a un grupo de adolescentes asmáticos de ambos sexos entre 12 y 14 años de edad, con el objetivo de identificar el nivel de conocimiento que tienen sobre su enfermedad, medicamentos usados en la crisis e intercrisis, la conducta asumida frente a las crisis, la preparación que tienen para la vida y la asociación de su enfermedad con la disminución del rendimiento docente. Se encontró que las abuelas y las madres fueron la fuente fundamental que proporcionaron información a estos adolescentes sobre el asma, el Salbutamol en aerosol fue el medicamento utilizado por excelencia en las crisis, predominó la ausencia de tratamiento intercrisis, no asociaron la enfermedad, a la disminución de su rendimiento escolar, el mayor número de encuestados manifestó conductas adecuadas ante las crisis y tener conocimiento(AU)

ABSTRACT

Nowadays, asthma is a growing ailment; the most common chronic illness affecting the adult and the infant populations in the developed world, where over 5 percent of inhabitants suffer from it. It is estimated that this disease causes one to two million deaths per year. A descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted in an urban junior high school in La Habana from January 2010 to March 2011. A group of asthmatic adolescents of both sexes aged 12 to 14 years were surveyed. The objective was to identify the level of knowledge that the students had acquired about their disease, the drugs used in the asthma attacks and between attacks, the behavior adopted to face up to attacks, their preparation for life and the association of their disease and lower educational performance. It was found that grandmothers and mothers were the fundamental sources of information on asthma, Salbutamol in aerosol form was the most frequent drug in crisis, the non- application of treatment between attacks was predominant; the students did not relate their disease to lower educational performance and a large number of them behaved adequately in the face of asthma attacks and did know about the disease(AU)
