RESUMO
Objetivos:
Descrever a prevalência dehiperglicemia em pacientes com acidente vasucularencefálico (AVE) internados em setor neurológico emum hospital no sul do Brasil.Métodos:
Estudo observacional com delianementotransversal. Foram estudados todos os pacientes comAVE, maiores de 18 anos, internados no referido setorentre julho e setembro de 2008. Os dados foram coletadospor meio de questionário padronizado. Os dados foramanalisados com auxílio do programa SPSS versão 12.0.Resultados:
Dos pacientes que sofreram AVE, 50%eram diabéticos e 73,5% apresentaram hiperglicemia(p=0,001). A média da pressão arterial sistólica foi maiorno grupo dos diabéticos (p=0,029) e o tipo de AVE maisprevalente foi o isquêmico. A mortalidade foi maior nogrupo dos diabéticos (3/17 - 8,8%) em relação aos nãodiabéticos, mas não houve associação estatisticamentesignificativa (p=0,227).Conclusão:
A hiperglicemia esteve presente em73,5% dos casos de pacientes internados por AVE e 50%deles apresentava diabetes mellitus.ABSTRACT

Of the patients who suffered strokes, 50%were diabetic and 73,5% had hyperglycemia (p = 0001).The average systolic blood pressure was high in the groupof DM (p = 0029) and the type of stroke was moreprevalent was the ischemic. The mortality was bigger inDM group than in without DM(3/17-8,8%) but didn?thave siginificacy.Conclusion:
The hyperglycemia was present in73.5% of patients hospitalized for stroke and 50% ofthem had diabetes mellitus.
