Introduction:
The anxiety and expectation of odontologic patient have the ability to change significantly their vital signs, which can result in emergency situations. Objective:
The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of anxiety in patients undergoing exodonty on their vital signs - temperature, pulse and systolic and diastolic blood pressure (SBP and DBP) - in the moments before, during and after surgery. Material andmethod:
Forty-one patients underwent a questionnaire based on a dental anxiety scale who classified them into different levels of anxiety. The results were correlated with vital signs at different times of attendance.Result:
We found that SBP in patients with moderate anxiety, preoperatively, was the only variable that differed in a statistically significant difference between phases of attendance, with lower values compared to the other phases. Conclusion:
It is evident, therefore, the influence of anxiety in the physiological situation of the patient in dental surgery.
