Overdenture: implantando sorrisos em projeto de extensão: relato de caso / Overdenture: deploying smiles at extension project: case report

RESUMO

Devido a fatores econômicos, sociais e culturais, as pessoas ao longo do tempo perdem seus dentes ainda jovens, e boa parte dessas pessoas já foi submetida à terapia com dentaduras. Porém, outras sequer tiveram condições de acessar esta alternativa terapêutica. Ao longo dos anos, os processos alveolares (especialmente os inferiores) sofreram reabsorção e, hoje, essas pessoas, já na terceira idade, não dispõem de estrutura óssea capaz de promover estabilidade às suas próteses (quando as possuem), ficando, consequentemente, prejudicadas em sua função mastigatória, em sua fonação, e em seu convívio social pela impossibilidade de uso da dentadura inferior, causando-lhe prejuízo estético e, muitas vezes, psicológico em razão da baixa autoestima, além de exigirem um trabalho maior do aparelho digestivo no tratamento do bolo alimentar ingerido sem a adequada mastigação. Os projetos de extensão universitária representam, na essência do termo, a projeção que a instituição de forma geral e os componentes desta, de forma individual, estabelecem com o meio social onde estão inseridos, instaurando um ciclo de retroalimentação, teoricamente positivo, que justificaria a existência da Universidade na sociedade. Não se conceitua a Universidade que não exerce o seu papel transformador dentro da sociedade O presente trabalho objetiva mostrar através de apresentação de um caso clínico de overdenture sobreimplantes, a importância dos projetos de extensão envolvendo parcerias institucionais na melhoria da qualidade de vida da população.

ABSTRACT

Due to various factors, including the economic, social and cultural perspective, many people ended up losing their teeth at a young age and good parts of these people underwent therapy with dentures. Others were even able to access this alternative therapy. Over the years, the alveolar processes (especially the lower) showed resorption and now these people, because the elderly do not have the bone structure that promotes stability of their prostheses (when have one), being thushindered in its function mastication, in his speech and in their social life by the impossibility of using the lower denture, causing disfigurement and psychological often because of low self-esteem, and require a greater work of the digestive tract in the treatment of swallowed bolus without proper chewing.The university extension projects represent the essence of the term, the projection that the institution in general and components that, individually, lay with the social environment where they fit, introducing a feedback loop, positive theory, would justify the existence University of society. Not that conceptualizes the University shall not exercise its transformative role in society This paper aims to show through the presentation of a clinical case of overdenture implant the importance of the extension projects involving institutional partnerships to improve the quality of life.
