ABSTRACT
Objective -To assess the prevalence of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) in adults and elderly diabetic patients and their nutritional status in an ambulatory of the public health system of Goiânia-GO. The prevalence of diabetes mellitus (DM) in the population of Goiânia was 3,7% in 2007, with the incidence higher in men than in women. The natural history of diabetes is marked by the appearance of chronic complications such as cardiovascular diseases (CVD), being the main factor triggering these diseases, the nutritional status. Methods - Were retrospectively analyzed 100 medical records of patients randomly without giving preference in the period of April 2010 to June 2011 in an ambulatory of the public health system of Goiânia. The data collected included age, sex, anthropometric data and the presence of DM and CVD. Statistical analysis was performed with SPSS 15.0 and considered significant if p< 0,05. Results - Data were collected from 100 patients which the prevalence of DM was 38 (38%) and CVD 73 (73%) and of total 30 (78,9%) had both. The mean age was 50,59 (± 12,32) years, being 71,1% women. Regarding nutritional status, most patients were overweight in 17 (44,7%), but the occurrence of diabetes was higher among patients with obesity II. Conclusion - The prevalence of CVD in DM patients was 78,9% and the nutritional status of higher prevalence of overweight was 44,7%.
