RESUMEN
En el año 2005 se diagnosticaron 814 casos de cáncer de mama de los cuales 470 casos correspondieron a cáncer de mama localmente avanzado, la edad promedio fue 53 años; 159 pacientes tuvieron manejo quirúrgico durante este mismo año, a 119 se les realizó mastectomía radical modificada y a 40 pacientes cirugía de conservación. De las 40 pacientes sometidas a cirugía de conservación, 20 recibieron quimioterapia neoadyuvante y 4 hormonoterapia neoadyuvante, la respuesta patológica valorada a través de Miller y Payne fue completa en 8 pacientes (33%), 2 pacientes presentaron progresión de enfermedad una a nivel cerebral y la otra a nivel pulmonar. Con un seguimiento a 5 años, 27 pacientes (67,5%) se encuentran vivas sin evidencia de enfermedad, 9 pacientes (22,5%) figuran como perdidas de vista, 2 pacientes (5%) fallecieron (1 por progresión de enfermedad y otra a causa de un accidente de tránsito); 1 paciente continuó tratamiento en otra institución.
ABSTRACT
In 2005 were diagnosed 814 cases of breast cancer of which 470 cases were locally advanced breast cancer, the average age was 53 years; 159 patients had surgical management during this year, 119 underwent radical modified mastectomy and 40 had breast conservation surgery. Of the 40 patients undergoing conservation surgery, 20 received neoadjuvant chemotherapy and 4 neoadjuvant hormone therapy, the pathological response assessed by Miller and Payne was complete in 8 patients (33%), 2 patients experienced disease progression 1 patient had cerebral metastases and the other lung metastases. With 5 years follow up, 27 patients (67.5%) are alive without evidence of disease, 9 patients (22.5%) appear lost to follow up, 2 patients (5%) died (1 for progression disease and another because of a traffic accident), 1 patient continued treatment at another institution.
