Objective:
To evaluate Live Birth Information System (Sinasc)variable completeness in the Northeast Brazilian States, in 2000 and 2009.Methods:
descriptive study comprised of all live birth records held on Sinasc. Percentage incompleteness for each variable selected was calculated and judged by the following criteria excellent (incompleteness < 5 per cent); good (5-9.9 per cent); fair (10-19.9 per cent); poor (20-50 per cent) and very poor (> 50 per cent). Results:
the race/skin color variable had the highest percentages of incompleteness, reaching 20.5 per cent in Sergipe (2009). The gender variable had the lowest percentage of incompleteness (less than 1 per cent). Recording of the number of antenatal visits improved, with incompleteness ranging from 8.9 per cent in Bahia in 2000 to 0.7 per cent in Sergipe in 2009.Conclusion:
This studys results confirm that Sinasc has good to excellent completeness.
