Trabalho em saúde: desafios contemporâneos para o Serviço Social / Health care: current challenges for Social Work

RESUMO

O artigo discute as especificidades do trabalho do assistente social na área da saúde, a partir de pesquisa realizada com profissionais inseridos na atenção primária à saúde em Juiz de Fora/MG. O estudo foi construído a partir da compreensão de que o assistente social se insere no trabalho em saúde atuando sobre os determinantes sociais que envolvem o processo saúde-doença com a perspectiva de atender as necessidades dos usuários. Porém, os desafios postos pela conjuntura neoliberal, faz com que o assistente social seja desafiado a buscar alternativas competentes e criativas, para fortalecer o caráter democrático dos serviços públicos de saúde.

ABSTRACT

The article discusses the specifics of the work of social workers in the health, from research conducted with health professionals involved in primary care to health in Juiz de Fora/MG. The study understands that the Social Workers include themselves in Health by acting on the social determinants that involves the health-illness process, and aims to achieve customers needs. However, the challenges presented by the neoliberal economy, causes the Social Workers is challenged to seek for viable and creative alternatives to strengthen the democratic character of public health care services.
