Cuidados paliativos: uma abordagem a partir das categorias profissionais de saúde / Palliative care: an approach based on the professional health categories

RESUMO

O Cuidado Paliativo surge como uma filosofia humanitária de cuidar de pacientes em estado terminal, aliviando a sua dor e o sofrimento. Estes cuidados prevêem a ação de uma equipe interdisciplinar, onde cada profissional reconhecendo o limite da sua atuação contribuirá para que o paciente, em estado terminal, tenha dignidade na sua morte. Este artigo trata a questão da morte e do morrer, tanto na visão tradicional como na contemporaneidade, e como o cuidado paliativo tem sido tratado nas categorias de trabalho de medicina, serviço social, psicologia e enfermagem. A metodologia deste trabalho consiste na revisão bibliográfica de artigos localizados na base de dados Scielo, revistas eletrônicas e livros técnicos relacionados com o tema. A análise dos artigos apontou para uma carência de disciplinas que tratem da temática da morte nos currículos profissionais, para poucos serviços de cuidados paliativos na sociedade brasileira e para barreiras que se colocam a esse novo olhar ao paciente terminal. Esta pesquisa visa ampliar a discussão dos cuidados paliativos na saúde pública, e fornecer subsídios a futuros estudos que tratarão da temática.

ABSTRACT

Palliative care has emerged as a humanitarian philosophy of caring for terminally ill patients, alleviating their pain and suffering. This care involves the action of an interdisciplinary team, in which all the professional recognize the limits of their performance will help the terminally ill patient to die with dignity. This article deals with the issue of death and dying, both from the traditional and the contemporary standpoint, and how palliative care have been treated in the job categories of medicine, social work, psychology and nursing. The methodology of this study consists of a literature review of articles in the SciELO database, electronic journals and technical books related to the topic. Analysis of the articles revealed a shortage of subjects that deal with the theme of death in professional curricula, as well as few palliative care services in Brazilian society and barriers faced by this new approach to the terminal patient. This research aims to broaden the discussion of palliative care in public health, and provide information for future studies that will address the theme.
