The treatment of hyperthyroidism with antithyroid drugs can have a signifi cant side effect, agranulocytosis. Symptoms resulting from this condition are usually manifested by infections, especially in the throat, and the primary form of the disease are complaints of fever and pharyngitis. Agranulocytosis may be defi ned as a large reduction in the number of granulocytes in peripheral blood and is characterized by neutrophil count below 500/μL. In the present study the occurrence of agranulocytosis is reported in a patient with hyperthyroidism in use ofMethimazole.
