Agente comunitário de saúde e a prevenção do câncer bucal / The community health agents and oral cancer prevention

RESUMO

Objetivo: avaliar o nível de conhecimento de Agentes Comunitários de Saúde (ACS) sobre câncer de boca. Método: estudo descritivo, mediante levantamento de dados primários. A população-alvo constou de 266 ACS em atuação no segundo semestre de 2010, na Estratégia de Saúde da Família, no município de Itajaí (SC). O instrumento para coleta de dados foi um questionário autoaplicável, com perguntas do tipo fechado, abordando os seguintes tópicos caracterização sociodemográfica, atitudes e conhecimento. Para a determinação do nível de conhecimento, foram estabelecidas as seguintes categorias excelente, bom e insatisfatório. Resultados: participaram da pesquisa 163 agentes; a maioria era do gênero feminino (99 %), da faixa etária entre 20 e 30 anos (40 %), escolarização de nível médio (85 %) e atuação profissional inferior a dois anos (41 %). Em quatro,das cinco questões do domínio cognitivo, o nível de conhecimento foi insatisfatório. O tópico sobre fatores de risco foi o que obteve melhor desempenho. De acordo com os critérios pré-estabelecidos para esta investigação, a maior frequência (68,7 %) foi para o nível de conhecimento insatisfatório. Conclusão: o grupo pesquisado classificou-se num nível de conhecimento insatisfatório. Este resultado sugere a necessidade de um melhor preparo técnico-científico deste profissional para o atendimento à comunidade.

ABSTRACT

Objective: the aim of the study was to evaluate the knowledge of the Community Health Agents (ACS) on oral cancer. Method: the study was a descriptive and transversal one with primary data collection.The population-target included by 266 ACS working in a city of Santa Catarina (Brazil) in the year 2010. The instrument for data collection was a questionnaire with closed questions. Results: 163 agents participated in the study, most of them were females (99 %); 40 % of the group was between 20 and 30 years old. The majority (85 %) has medium education degree and 41 per cent was working for less than two years in the health service. In four out of the five questions, the major frequency was to the level of unsatisfactory knowledge. Risk's factors were the topic with the best performance. According to the criteria of this investigation 68.7 per cent was related to unsatisfactory level of knowledge. Conclusion: the group investigated showed unsatisfactory knowledge on the targeted subject. The results suggest the necessity of a better technical and scientific preparation of the professional to serve the community in what regards oral cancer prevention.
