RESUMO

Este artigo pretende refletir sobre os critérios de normalidade que se aplicam à relação mãe-bebê. As questões que orientam a análise são as seguintes como é uma relação mãe-bebê considerada normal? Por outro lado, o que é considerado patológico nessa modalidade de relação? Por meio do exame de manuais de puericultura publicados desde as primeiras décadas do século XX, busca-se verificar mudanças e permanências nas maneiras especializadas de avaliar as relações entre as mães e seus bebês como adequadas ou não. A análise fundamenta-se em textos de Canguilhem e Foucault sobre o conceito de normalização.

ABSTRACT

This article intends to discuss the criteria of normality that apply to the mother-baby relationship. The questions which the analysis seeks to answer are the following How is a mother-baby relationship considered to be normal? On the other hand, what is considered to be pathological in this relationship? The analysis is based on baby books published since the first decades of the XX century and intends to verify changes and permanencies in the specialized ways of evaluating the relations between the mothers and their babies. The analysis is based in texts from Canguilhem and Foucault on the concept of normalization.
