Teoria social e dialógica do sujeito / Social and dialogical theory of the subject

RESUMO

Este ensaio apresenta a teoria social e dialógica do sujeito elaborada pelo filósofo pragmatista e psicólogo social norte-americano George Herbert Mead. Nessa teoria, a ação comunicativa-participante - a ação social que envolve o compartilhamento de significados - é a base social da formação da linguagem, da mente e do sujeito. Mead concebe o sujeito como uma relação envolvendo o I e o me - o eu e o me. O me é o sujeito social ou o reprodutor da ordem social. O eu é o sujeito, não somente biológico ou impulsivo, mas também observador, cognitivo, crítico e agente de mudança social. A cognição surge dessa relação e se desenvolve como processo de controle do impulso e de deliberação reflexiva e moral. À guisa de conclusão, mostra-se em que sentido o comportamentalismo social-cognitivo de Mead, orientado pelo pragmatismo filosófico, pode contribuir para a abordagem cognitivo-comportamental.

ABSTRACT

This essay presents the social and dialogical theory of the self, elaborated by George Herbert Mead, the North American pragmatist philosopher and social psychologist. According to his theory, communicative and participative action - the social action that involves the sharing of meanings - is the social basis of language formation, of the mind and of the self. Mead conceives the subject as a relation involving the I and the me. The me is the social subject, reproducing the social order. The I is, not only the biological or impulsive subject, but also the observer, cognitive, critical and agent of social change. Cognition results from this relation and develops as the process of control of impulse and of reflexive and moral deliberation. By way of conclusion, it is shown in what sense Mead’s social-cognitive behaviorism, guided by philosophical pragmatism, may contribute to the cognitive-behavioral approach.
