ABSTRACT
Mandibular arches with moderate to severe bone loss may suffer fracture after a procedure of lateralization of the inferior alveolar nerve. The authors analyzed the efficacy of titanium plates to reduce the risk of fracture under these conditions. For this, a CT scan was digitally reconstructed and LIAN simulations were performed with and without titanium plate reinforcement through the 3-D finite element method. The results demonstrated that titanium plates of 0.6mm thickness are not effective to reduce the risk of fracture for the above mentioned situations.
