ABSTRACT
Global left ventricular systolic function is a major determinant of outcome in patients with myocardial infarction. Patients with poor ventricular systolic function have the greatest potential to benefit from revascularization, provided they have viable myocardium. The present article was written to review the current imaging techniques that are able to help the clinician accurately diagnosis the residual viable myocardium, with regard to patients with suspected or confirmed myocardial infarction. The mean aim of this paper was to highlight the usefulness of stress echocardiography with the different available agents in the clinical arena of myocardial ischemia to demonstrate the presence of viable myocardium.
