Estomatitis subprotésica en pacientes venezolanos portadores de prótesis removibles / Denture stomatitis in Venezuelan patients with removable prosthesis

RESUMEN

Se realizó un estudio descriptivo y transversal de los 86 afectados por estomatitis subprotésica, portadores de prótesis dental removible (parcial y total), que acudieron al Servicio de Estomatología de Las Llanadas en el municipio de Cumaná, perteneciente al Estado Sucre de la República Bolivariana de Venezuela, de noviembre del 2009 a agosto del 2010, a fin de caracterizarles según algunas variables de interés. En la serie se evidenció que el mayor porcentaje de pacientes correspondieron al sexo femenino y al grupo etario de 35-59 años; asimismo, predominaron el uso de la dentadura total removible en mayores de 60 años, el grado clínico II de la afección en pacientes fumadores, que portaban continuamente la prótesis, y el grado clínico III de la lesión en aquellos con más de 10 años de empleo de la prótesis, para quienes se realizaron recomendaciones al respecto.

ABSTRACT

A descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out in 86 patients affected by denture stomatitis, with removable dental prosthesis (partial and complete) that attended the Stomatology Service of Las Llanadas in Cumaná municipality, belonging to Sucre State of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, from November 2009 to August 2010, in order to characterize them according to some variates of interest. The series showed that the highest percentage of patients were female and the age group of 35-59 years; also, the use of the removable complete denture in those over 60 years, the clinical grade II of the disease in smokers, continually bearing prosthesis, and clinical grade III of the lesion in those with more than 10 years of using the prosthesis, who received recommendations in this respect, prevailed.
