ABSTRACT
Introduction:
In adolescence, concepts such as identity, body image, self esteem, are put to the test in social interactions, and the sense of group belonging is of utmost relevance. Objective:
To describe changes in mood, school performance, social interactions, communication with teachers and family, in six adolescents with disability, at risk for school desertion, as a result of a therapeutic group intervention in the school environment.Methodology:
A therapeutic group intervention in the school environment was performed, with a one year follow-up, with six adolescents whom attended the Work Unit at the Teletón Rehabilitation Institute, in Santiago, during the year 2010. Patients went through a previous brief psychological intervention, based on past and present biographic introspective analysis, signifying their identity and life story. Results:
Improvements in school performance, depressive and anxious mood, communication to peers and teachers were observed. While responding directly to the patients initial consultation motive, the intervention had a positive impact on psychosocial well- being, and thus enhanced inclusion. Conclusion:
Therapeutic group intervention in the school environment for adolescents with disability results in improvements in several psychosocial well-being indicators.RESUMEN
