As diferentes facetas do sofrimento daquele que cuida: uma revisão sobre o cuidador / The different facets of the suffering of the person who gives care: a review about the caregiver

RESUMO

Esta revisão integrativa objetivou analisar a literatura acerca da sobrecarga do cuidador, considerando-o como um ator vulnerável dentro do seu processo de atuação. Encontrou-se que cuidadores dividem-se entre familiares e profissionais, com diversos arranjos e formatos de cuidado, em situações que são mais dependentes das necessidades individuais de cada paciente do que propriamente da doença em questão. O cuidado, além disto, é uma questão de gênero, sendo as mulheres as encarregadas desse ato por questões culturais, religiosas ou familiares. Cuidar é um ato dicotômico, de satisfação pessoal e de adoecimento, que gera diferentes facetas do sofrimento nos níveis físico, mental, social e espiritual, e está caracterizado na literatura por uma rica epistemologia.

ABSTRACT

This integrative review aimed to analyze the literature about the caregiver burden, considering that person as a vulnerable actor in his/her process of acting. It was found that caregivers are divided between workers and relatives, with various arrangements and forms of care, in situations that are more dependent on the individual needs of each patient rather than on the specific disease in question. Care, moreover, is a gender issue, and women are handed the responsibility for this activity due to cultural, religious, or family issues. Caring is a dichotomous act, of personal satisfaction and illness, which generates different facets of stress on the physical, mental, social, and spiritual levels, and is characterized by a rich epistemology in the literature.
