RESUMEN
El Dr. Octavio Peralta como psiquiatra trabajó en el Manicomio Nacional desde 1932 hasta su jubilación en 1968, cuando ocupaba el cargo de Jefe de Servicio. Paralelamente ejerció la docencia en las Escuelas de Medicina y Enfermería de la Universidad de Chile. Asimismo trabajó en su consulta y fue Director de dos Clínicas Privadas. Ayudante del Profesor Dr. Arturo Vivado, colaboró en la implementación de las nuevas terapias biológicas aparecidas a mediados del siglo XX .De carácter tranquilo, sereno y optimista, resistió los embates y dificultades que le tocó vivir. Cofundador de la Sociedad de Neurología, Psiquiatría y Neurocirugía, le correspondió dirigirla en más de una ocasión. Hombre amante de la clínica escribió varios artículos sobre distintas enfermedades.
ABSTRACT
Dr. Octavio Peralta was a psychiatrist who worked at National Madhouse since 1932 until his retirement in 1968. In this moment his position was Service Chief. At the same time he was professor at Medicine School and Nurse School in the University of Chile. He had private medical office and was Director of two private psychiatric clinics. At the University, he was the assistant of Professor Arturo Vivado, with whom he collaborated in the introduction of the new biologic therapies in the middle of the XX Century. He was a quiet and optimistic person, and resisted calmly the reverses that he had to endure in his life. He is one of the cofounders of the Chilean Neurology, Psychiatry and Neurosurgery Society, of which he was more than once the President. He was fond of Clinic Psychiatry and wrote several articles oriented to different illnesses / diseases.
