RESUMEN

El síndrome de intestino corto (SIC) es una afección clínica poco frecuente, que origina un fallo intestinal prolongado o permanente en lactantes y niños. Los objetivos del tratamiento son a) conseguir un adecuado crecimiento con buen estado nutricional; b) mantener estable el estado hidroelectrolítico; c) facilitar el proceso de adaptación intestinal. El tratamiento nutricional a emplearse es la Nutrición parenteral como etapa inicial, la cual va a brindar los requerimientos energéticos que el niño necesita. Luego se debe continuar con la adaptación intestinal que incluye la alimentación mixta y por último, una vez que se haya logrado administrar más del 75% de los requerimientos totales por vía enteral, se debe considerar retirar la Nutrición Parenteral.

ABSTRACT

Short bowel syndrome (SIC) is a rare clinical condition, which causes a permanent or protracted intestinal failure in infants and children. The goals of treatment are to a) achieve adequate growth with good nutritional status, b) maintain stable electrolyte status, c) facilitate the process of intestinal adaptation. Nutritional therapy to parenteral nutrition is used as an initial stage, which will provide the energy requirements the child needs. Then you must continue intestinal adaptation including mixed feed and finally, once it has been administered more than 75% of the total requirements enterally, consider removing Parenteral Nutrition.
