RESUMO

Por que há tanto interesse em restaurações de cerâmica pura? A resposta é simples: estética durável e incomparável. As restaurações cerâmicas permanecem atraentes por muitos anos, e nenhum outro material dentário pode suplantar essa característica. Assim, a estética por longo prazo e a biocompatibilidade são a promessa de todas as restaurações cerâmicas. As novas cerâmicas odontológicas policristalinas são mais resistentes e tenazes, porém, precisam ser recobertas com porcelanas para apresentar estética agradável. Além disso, essas restaurações precisam ser unidas ao dente para apresentar maior durabilidade. Este artigo apresenta e classifica as cerâmicas mais usadas na atualidade com o objetivo de informar ao profissional as possibilidades de uso clínico.

ABSTRACT

What is the reason for the increased interest on all-ceramic restorations? The answer is very simple: their unsurpassable, long-term esthetics. Ceramic restorations look great for years, and no other dental material can surpass this feature. The novel polycrystalline dental ceramics are stronger and tougher, but have to be veneered for pleasant esthetics. Additionally, these restorations should be bonded to tooth structure to present greater durability. The aim of this article is to present a classification of the most popular ceramics to increase the clinician’s knowledge about clinical indications.
