RESUMO
Objetivo:
investigar os critérios utilizados pelos profissionaisa equipe de saúde da família na classificação dos tipos de aleitamento materno.Metodologia:
estudo quantitativo, observacional-secccional, realizado na atenção primária à saúde em Belo Horizonte. Aplicou-se um formulário a 80 mães de lactentes para investigar os critérios utilizados por 57 profissionais da equipe de saúde da família a classificação dos tipos de aleitamento.Resultados:
os maiores coeficientes de variação foram encontrados para os critérios de classificação do Aleitamento Materno Exclusivo (AME) e Aleitamento Misto (AM) - 41,2% e 20,5%, respectivamente. O critério para Aleitamento Materno Predominante (AMP)era desconhecido pela maioria dos profissionais. A prevalência do AME foi de 25%; AMP - 10%; AM - 38%; AA - 27% e 73% das crianças menores de um ano eram amamentadas.Conclusão:
os resultados indicaram que as prevalências encontradas, embora ainda fora do ideal preconizado, demonstraram que a situação encontra-se mais promissora do que até então estava sendo registrado.ABSTRACT
Objetive To investigate the criteria used by health professionals in the classification of types of breastfeeding. Method:

The highest coefficients of variation were found for the criteria for classification of exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) and mixed feeding (BF) - 41.2% and 20.5%, respectively. The criteria for predominant breastfeeding (PBF) was unknown by most professionals. The prevalence of EBF was 25%, PBF - 10%, BF - 38%, ABF (artificial breastfeeding) - 27% and 73% of children under 1 year were breastfed.Conclusion:
The results indicated that prevalence rates, although still outside the recommended ideal, demonstrated that the situation is more promising than hitherto was being recorded.
