ABSTRACT
The mechanisms responsible for the etiology and pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease (MA) have not yet been clearly defined. However, inflammation plays a significant role in the development of the disease. Studies have shown that inflammation/infection can hasten the emergence and peripheral progression of MA. Chronic periodontitis is an infectious disease which causes bacterial exposure years and local and systemic inflammation. This article has reviewed the pathogenesis of chronic Periodontitis and the role of inflammation in MA. It was proposed the hypothesis that periodontal disease (DP) can increase inflammation in the brain and contribute to the progression of the MA. However, the DP is a treatable infection, so a modifiable risk factor for the MA.
