RESUMEN

El naturalista suizo Moisés Bertoni arribó al Paraguay en 1888 buscando cumplir algunos sueños de juventud y dedicarse a la investigación científica. Demostró interés en la investigación antropológica de las etnias americanas, especialmente los guaraníes, proponiendo teorías sobre el origen biológico y las características de su cultura, moral, religión y Psicología. Bertoni fue el primero en ocuparse de la psicología de los guaraníes aunque la exactitud y vigencia de sus ideas, así como su relevancia histórica, no fueron seriamente evaluadas. Este artículo persigue ese objetivo, ubicando las ideas de Bertoni en su contexto histórico y examinando la importancia de las mismas para la Psicología. La investigación es cualitativa y documental, con un examen de fuentes primarias y secundarias.

ABSTRACT

The Swiss naturalist Moses Bertoni arrived to Paraguay in 1888 looking to fulfill some youth dreams and devote his efforts to scientific research. He demonstrated interest in the anthropological study of the American ethnic groups, especially the Guarani people, proposing theories on their biological origin and the characteristics of their culture, morality, religion, and Psychology. Bertoni was the first to deal with the psychology of the Guarani although the accuracy and validity of its ideas, as well as its historical relevance, were not seriously evaluated. This article pursues that goal, putting Bertoni's ideas in its historical context and examining their importance for Psychology. The research is qualitative and documentary, with a review of primary and secondary sources.
