RESUMO
O objetivo deste estudo é corroborar com a afirmação atual de que a análise facial subjetiva é um método válido e necessário no diagnóstico e planejamento ortodônticos, através de uma revisão da literatura científica disponível atualmente em meios eletrônicos de pesquisa. Buscou-se nas bases de dados SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online), LILACS (Literatura Latino Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde) e MEDLINE (Literatura Internacional em Ciências da Saúde) artigos que abordassem, sob alguma forma, a análise facial subjetiva e análise facial subjetiva em população exclusivamente brasileira, com publicação entre 1960 e 2010. Somente 16 artigos puderam ser incluídos nesta revisão. Todos os artigos encontrados afirmam a importância da análise facial subjetiva no diagnóstico ortodôntico, principalmente pelos fatores psicológico e social envolvidos.
ABSTRACT
The aim of this study was to corroborate, through a review of scientific literature currently available in electronic media research, that the assertion that the current subjective facial analysis is a valid and necessary method in orthodontics diagnosis and planning. We searched in the databases SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online), LILACS (Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences), and MEDLINE (International Literature on Health Sciences) for articles that have addressed in some form, the subjective facial analysis and subjective facial analysis exclusively in Brazilian population, published between 1960 and 2010. Only 16 articles were used in this review. All articles found sustain the importance of subjective facial analysis in orthodontic diagnosis, mainly due to the psychological and social factors involved.
