O impacto do acidente vascular cerebral no cotidiano de cuidadores familiares / The impact of stroke on the daily life of family caregivers

RESUMO

Objetivo: O presente trabalho visa investigar a influência do grau de independência funcional de pacientes acometidos por Acidente Vascular Cerebral no impacto da doença na vida do cuidador familiar. Tal fato merece destaque uma vez que o AVC gera déficits no funcionamento físico, sensorial e cognitivo do paciente, impactando no desempenho das atividades da vida diária e acarretando alterações na dinâmica familiar. Métodos: Trata-se de um estudo transversal, de caráter descritivo. Foram avaliados cuidadores e pacientes que estavam em tratamento nos principais serviços públicos de saúde de Natal/RN, sendo utilizadas como instrumentos de avaliação a Escala de Impacto da Doença nos Cuidadores (Caregiver Burden Scale) e a Medida de Independência Funcional (MIF). Resultados: Os cuidadores eram predominantemente mulheres (84,21%), casadas (63,16%), filhas (42,11%), ou esposas (47,37%), com média de idade de 44,89 ± 9,46 anos. Foi observado que 57,89% da amostra relatou sentir dor nas costas, com uma média, segundo avaliação da Escala Visual Analógica de 7 ± 1,97 pontos. A Medida de Independência Funcional revelou uma funcionalidade moderada quanto aos seus aspectos motores (51 ± 20,50). O impacto do AVC na vida dos cuidadores evidenciou uma sobrecarga negativa com escore de 49 ± 12,82 pontos no CBS. Conclusões: Observou-se um impacto negativo da doença na vida dos cuidadores familiares de pacientes com AVC, sugerindo uma relação entre esse impacto e o nível de dependência funcional desses pacientes. É necessário que profissionais de saúde identifiquem a importância dessa relação e trabalhem o paciente de modo a estimular sua funcionalidade para AVDs.

ABSTRACT

Objective: This study aims to investigate the functional dependence levels of stroke patients’ and the burden brought by this disease onto caregivers’ lives. Such fact deserves evidence once the stroke causes deficits in physical, sensory and cognitive functioning of its victims, bringing negative impact in the performance of daily living activities, which leads to changes in the families’ dynamics. Methods: This is a cross-sectional – descriptive study, where caregivers and patients were evaluated in the main public health service facilities in Natal/RN, using as instruments the burden levels in caregivers related to the disease (Caregiver Burden Scale) and the FunctionaIndependence Measure (FIM). Results: Caregivers were predominantly female (84,21%), married (63,16%), daughters (42,11%), or wives (47,37%), with a mean age of 44,89 ± 9,46 years. It was observed that 57,89% of the sample reported feeling pain in the back, being its average, by the Visual Analogue Scale evaluation, of 7 ± 1.97 points. The Functional Independence Measure has shown moderated functioning in motor aspects (51 ± 20.50). The impact of Stroke on caregivers’ lives indicated a negative overload experience with scores of 49 ± 12, 82 points in CBS. Conclusions: Regar ding to patients with stroke sequels, there was a negative impact on the lives of family caregivers, showing a possible relation between it and the level of patients’ functional dependence. Therefore, it is necessary that health professionals identify the importance of this relationship and work the patient to stimulate functionality in activities of daily living.
