Dos aplausos às ruínas: uma construção das memórias do Turfe no hipódromo da cidade do Rio Grande/RS / From the applause to the ruins: a construction of memories of turf in Rio Grande/RS city?s hippodrome

RESUMO

Este trabalho visa a construir algumas memórias do turfe praticado no hipódromo da cidade do Rio Grande/RS. Colonizada por imigrantes europeus, a cidade produziu um estilo de vida à moda daquele continente, sendo o turfe no hipódromo uma marca dessa presença no cenário esportivo. Com base na história oral, foram realizadas quatro entrevistas com pessoas que ocuparam diferentes posições de trabalho entre as décadas de 60 e 90 do século XX: um jóquei, um treinador, um tesoureiro e um dos presidentes. Nessa construção foi possível apontar que: a) o hipódromo é considerado como uma espécie de templo para os depoentes, algo sagrado que se confunde com suas próprias vidas; b) no funcionamento do hipódromo, aconteciam duas práticas distintas: a corrida e a aposta; c) o seu fechamento esteve vinculado a fatores que iam desde a falência econômica do local, até a midiatização do turfe com novos formatos de apostas.

ABSTRACT

This paper aims to build some memories about the turf practiced in the hippodrome in the city of Rio Grande/RS. Settled by European immigrants, the city produced a lifestyle similar to the style of that continent, and the turf at the hippodrome was a great presence in the sports scene. Based on oral history, four interviews were conducted with people who have occupied different positions, working between the 60 and 90 from the twentieth century: a jockey, a trainer, a banker and one of the presidents. In this production it was possible to point out that: a) the hippodrome is considered as a kind of temple to the deponents, something sacred that merges with their own lives; b) two distinct practices happened at the hippodrome, each with its operating modes: racing and betting; c) its closure was linked to factors ranging from the economic demise of the place and the media coverage to the turf with new betting formats.
