RESUMO

O objetivo deste ensaio é realizar uma abordagem histórica das profundas e inovadoras transformações operadas na esfera dos jogos digitais. Pretende-se evidenciar e discutir como inovações conceituais, evoluções dos aparatos tecnológicos e o desenvolvimento técnico-artístico permitiram o surgimento de diversos formatos, variações e gêneros de jogos e de modos de jogar, por fim dando origem aos chamados jogos multiplayers (multijogadores). Espera-se, com isso, contribuir com o entendimento acerca dessa manifestação cultural de lazer contemporânea.

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this essay is to present a historical approach about the innovative transformations wrought in the realm of digital games. It is intended to highlight and discuss how conceptual innovations, evolution of technological devices and technical-artistic developments prevented the emergence of various shapes, variations and game genres and modes of play, finally giving rise to so-called multiplayer games. It is expected, therefore, contribute to the understanding of this cultural manifestation of contemporary leisure.
