RESUMO
O objetivo do estudo foi descrever a prática atual de tênis de campo e outras atividades físicas em idosos. Foi realizado um estudo descritivo com 19 indivíduos de ambos os sexos (18 homens e 1 mulher) que praticam ou praticaram tênis de campo em algum período da terceira idade na cidade de Pelotas/RS. A prevalência de prática atual de tênis foi de 84,2% (IC95% 64,4 a 96,6). Os principais motivos relatados para iniciar a prática do tênis foram: por lazer (42,1%), por convite de amigos (26,3%), por iniciativa própria (15,8%) e por achar o desporto atrativo (10,5%). Do total de entrevistados, 84,2% realizam outro tipo de atividade física, sendo corrida/caminhada (56,3%), musculação (50,0%) e ginástica (25,0%) as mais citadas. A prática atual do tênis de campo e outras atividades físicas é alta e torna-se importante para um envelhecimento saudável.
ABSTRACT
The aim of this study was to describe the current practice of tennis and other physical activities among elderly. We conducted a descriptive study with 19 individuals of both genders (18 males and 1 female), who practice or have practiced tennis at some time during the third age in the city of Pelotas/RS. The prevalence of current practice of tennis was 84.2% (95% CI 64.4 to 96.6). The main reasons reported for beginning tennis were leisure (42.1%), invitation of friends (26.3%), self initiative (15.8%) and due to the sports appeal (10.5%). Of the total respondents, 84.2% perform other types of physical activity, being running/walking (56.3%), weightlifting (50.0%) and gymnastics (25.0%) the most cited. The current practice of field tennis and other physical activities is in a high level and becomes important for a healthy aging.
