ABSTRACT
This review aims to examine the underwater undulatory swimming (UUS) that is considered by athletes and coaches as the fifth swim. This name came about due to the four already known swims (crawl/freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly). In any of these four swims, the UUS is used in the moments of output of the block and in the moments of turns because of their efficiency. It is known that these moments are very important and contribute to the classification of swimmers during the competition. Despite the wide use of this technique and its importance, few studies have been done with the intent to study the variables related to the UUS. This review serves as an attempt to fill this important gap for the Physical Education area. Furthermore, to pretend of this work raise questions concerning the UUS that will serve both the practical application and to better understand this technique.
