Enfoques de aprendizajes y variables de orden sociocultural en estudiantes de una institución de educación superior en Colombia / Learning approaches and sociocultural variables in students of a college in Colombia

RESUMEN

Desde los años setenta el concepto de aprendizaje ha tenido una evolución hasta consolidarse en la actualidad en dos grandes categorías: superficial y profundo. A su vez, el enfoque de aprendizaje incluye dos componentes: motivación y estrategia. Éstos se modifican por el contexto donde se efectúa el proceso de aprendizaje, el que juega un papel importante en la intención o motivación que tenga el estudiante. Es por esto que conocer el impacto de algunas variables de orden sociocultural sobre los enfoques de aprendizaje se constituye en el eje central de este estudio. Objetivo: determinar la relación existente entre los enfoques de aprendizaje y las variables de orden sociocultural como: género, el tipo de colegio y cabeza de hogar. Material y métodos: cuantitativo no experimental; específicamente es un diseño de corte descriptivo. Luego de conocer la naturaleza y propósitos del estudio, en la muestra participaron de forma voluntaria 112 estudiantes de los programas de medicina, enfermería y educación física matriculados en el primer semestre académico en el periodo A 2013. La recolección de la información se realizó mediante la aplicación de dos instrumentos: una encuesta para identificación de aspectos de orden sociocultural, elaborada por el grupo investigador y el instrumento propuesto por Biggs RSPQ-2F para la identificación de los enfoques de aprendizajes. Resultados y conclusiones: en cuanto a los enfoques de aprendizaje, discriminados por tipo de carrera, en medicina y educación física, predomina el enfoque estratégico, mientras que en el programa de enfermería se acogen a un enfoque profundo. Los resultados de congruencias entre las escalas y subescalas de los enfoques, motivaciones y estrategias de aprendizaje que fueron utilizadas en este estudio son similares a los encontrados en otras partes del mundo. No hay relación entre los enfoques de aprendizaje y las tres variables socioculturales. Tiene gran importancia replicar estos estudios en otros entornos educativos en Colombia y analizar qué sucede en universidades públicas y privadas.

ABSTRACT

Since the seventies the concept of learning has evolved to be now consolidated into two broad categories: superficial and deep. In turn, the learning approach includes two components: motivation and strategy. These are modified by the context in which the learning process is performed, which plays an important role in the intention or motivation that the student may have. For this reason, the knowledge of the impact of some sociocultural variables on learning approaches becomes the focus of this study. Objective: to determine the relationship between learning approaches and sociocultural variables such as gender, type of school and head of the family. Materials and methods: quantitative non-experimental; specifically is a sectional descriptive design. After knowing the nature and purposes of the study, in the sample participated 112 volunteer students of the programs in Medicine, Nursing and Physical Education enrolled in the first semester in the 2013 period. The data collection was performed by application of two instruments: a survey to identify socio-cultural aspects, developed by the research group and the instrument proposed by Biggs RSPQ-2F for the identification of learning approaches. Results and Conclusions: for the identification of learning approaches, discriminated by type of career, in Medicine and Physical Education the strategic approach predominates, while in the nursing program they admit a deep approach. The results of congruence between the scales and subscales of the approaches, motivations and learning strategies that were used in this study are similar to those found in other parts of the world. There is no relationship between learning approaches and the three sociocultural variables. It is of great importance to replicate these studies in other educational environments in Colombia and analyze what happens in public and private universities.
