RESUMO
The "Science of /biomaterials" has had great development in the last twenty years. During the last four years we have made studies and researches on chemical processes to the obtention of a product resembling the bone tissue and we found HYDROXYAPATITE. Its chemcial basis is a compound of calcium and phosphorus, having the formula Ca10(PO4)6.(OH)2 and found in the bone tissue as inorganic matrix in a proportion of until85%. Histological studies performed in our researches with laboratory animals proved that this substance is biocompatible. Comparing inclusions of hydroxyapatite with inclusions of silicone, the former did nort show inflamatory reactions or capsular tissue formations as occurs with the silicone and other material used in internal prothesis. The stimulating results that were obtained led the author to perform some reconstructive surgeries of facial bones and to presente their surgical procedures and
