RESUMEN

Antecedentes: La tetralogía de Fallot es una cardiopatía congénita cianógena frecuente en la infancia, cuyo tratamiento quirúrgico presenta alta tasa de éxito a corto y largo plazos. La historia del "Mal Azul" es otro paso gigante en la historia de la cirugía del corazón. Objetivo: Destacar la obra de los primeros médicos cirujanos que realizaron este proceder en nuestro país. Método: Sobre la base de la investigación histórico-documental. Resultados: Presentación del caso: Niño Pedro César Pared y Mendoza de 5 años y 6 meses de edad, con tetralogía de Fallot corregida a la edad descrita, el 10 de septiembre de 1947, tan solo 2 años y 10 meses después, de la primera operación en el mundo, intervenido quirúrgicamente, en la clínica la Cardona, en la Habana, por el distinguido cirujano cubano Dr. Antonio Rodríguez Díaz, constituyendo esta peligrosísima operación, la primera que se realizaba en Cuba. Conclusión: Hacer frente al caso, en aquel momento histórico concreto, representó una gloria para Cuba y sus profesionales, los cuales engrosaron la grandiosa lista de "Paradigmas de la medicina cubana".

ABSTRACT

Background: Fallot's tetralogy is a frequent cyanogenic congenital heart disease in childhood, which surgical treatment presented a successful rate in short and long terms. The history of "Blue disease" is another great step in the surgery of the heart . Objective: To highlight the works of the first surgeons that performed this procedure in the country. Method: Upon the basis of a documentary-historical research. Results: A case report: A 5 years old and 6 months boy, Pedro Cesar Pared y Mendoza, suffering from Fallot's tetralogy that was corrected at the described age in September 10, 1947, 2 years and 10 months after the first surgery in the world, the boy underwent the operation at "Cardona" Clinic, Havana, by the distinguished Cuban surgeon Dr. Antonio Rodriguez Diaz, being this dangerous surgery the first performed in Cuba. Conclusion: The facing of this kind of surgery, in that historical moment, represented a glory for Cuba and the medical professionals that are included on the list of the" Paradimgs of the Cuban Medicine".
