La producción científica en estudiantes de medicina de una universidad autónoma en Venezuela / The scientific production in medical students in a autonomous university in Venezuela

ABSTRACT

The scientific production in the "Thesis" is the result of an important educational process in health sciences. General Objective: To describe the process and the scientific production in the medical career of a Private Venezuelan university. Materials: A descriptive, cross-sectional field research in a volunteer sample of 100 study groups, who were surveyed in the year 2013 and the manuscript were revised consigned. Results: The choice of the topic or subject was influenced by the specialist tutor in 52%; 84% executed the initial project until it becomes a senior thesis; 83% reported limitations in its development; 79% were unaware of the lines of university research; 65% were developed in public health facilities; 97% self-financed the work; 92% self-assessed group performance as "good - very good"; 100% had methodological specialists and tutorials; 93% rated as " good - very good " the specialist counsel and 85% to methodologist; 54% did not know how to identify the appropriate statistical procedure; 16% performed the statistical analysis on their own and 65% had no control on the computer analysis programs; 99% of investigations were quantitative, 59% worked with humans, 72% had a sample size of up to 149 items and 99% using descriptive statistics.Conclusion: Most medical student thesis are part of the quantitative paradigm and they reach development after the project is completed, with positive performances: Intragroup and mentors/tutors, despite all the constraints the research groups have to overcome, which should be reviewed by the responsible academic bodies.

RESUMEN

La producción científica en la "Tesis de Grado" es fruto de un importante proceso educativo en ciencias de la salud. Objetivo General: Describir el proceso y la producción científica en la carrera de medicina de una universidad autónoma venezolana. Materiales: Investigación descriptiva, transversal y de campo, en una muestra voluntaria de 100 grupos de investigación, que fueron encuestados en el año 2012 y se les revisó el manuscrito al consignarlo. Resultados: La elección del tema fue influenciada por el tutor especialista en 52%; 84% ejecutaron el proyecto inicial hasta convertirlo en el trabajo de grado; 83% manifestaron limitantes en el desarrollo del mismo; 79% desconocían las líneas de investigación universitaria; 65% los desarrollaron en centros asistenciales públicos; 97% autofinanciaron los trabajos; 92% autoevaluaron el desempeño grupal como "bueno-muy bueno"; 100% tuvo tutorías especialistas y metodológicas; 93% evaluaron como "buena-muy buena" la asesoría del especialista y 85% al metodólogo; 54% no sabían identificar el procedimiento estadístico adecuado; 16% realizó los análisis estadístico por sus propios medios y 65% no tuvieron dominio de los programas de análisis computarizados; 99% de las investigaciones fueron cuantitativas, 59% trabajaron con humanos, 72% tuvo un tamaño muestral de hasta 149 elementos y 99% aplicó estadística descriptiva. Conclusión: La mayoría de tesis estudiantiles de medicina se enmarcan en el paradigma cuantitativo y logran desarrollarse posterior al proyecto, con desempeños positivos: intragrupal y de los tutores, pese a muchas limitaciones que los grupos de investigación tienen que superar, los cuales deben ser revisados por los entes académicos responsables.
