RESUMO
O conceito de coping é caracterizado pela forma na qual o sujeito lida com uma situação de estresse, e é notório que características de personalidade podem influenciar no padrão de manejo de problemas. Assim, o objetivo deste estudo foi de correlacionar perfis de personalidade e estratégias de coping. Participaram desta pesquisa 50 homens, com idade entre 18 e 50 anos. Foram aplicados os instrumentos Bateria Fatorial de Personalidade (BFP) e a Escala de Modos de Enfrentamento de Problemas (EMEP). Os resultados encontrados foram de correlação direta para o traço de neuroticismo referente à estratégia de coping focado na emoção; também diante desta estratégia, foi encontrada correlação inversa com o traço de socialização. Correlacionaram-se positivamente os traços de socialização e realização com as estratégias focadas no problema e na busca pelo suporte social, além de correlação positiva entre o traço de extroversão e a busca pelo suporte social.(AU)
ABSTRACT
The concept of coping is characterized by the way in which a person deals with a stressful situation, and it is well accepted that personality features can influence the pattern of problems management. Therefore, the objective of this study was to correlate personality profiles and coping strategies. 50 men aged between 18 and 50 years of participated in this research. The following instruments were used Battery of Personality Factor (BPF) and the Scale of Coping Modes (SCM). The results found were direct correlation for the neuroticism trait and the coping strategy focused on the emotion; also, related to this strategy, an inverse correlation was found with the socialization trait. The socialization and realization traits were positively correlated with the strategies focused on the problem and social support seeking, and also there was positive correlation between the extroversion trait and social support seeking.(AU)
