Equidad en Salud: tareas pendientes y oportunidades para una Bioética Latinoamericana / Health Equity: pending tasks and opportunities in Latin American Bioethics

RESUMEN

La equidad, como concepto, ha sido sistemáticamente tratada desde diversas perspectivas que han realizado esfuerzos para concordar en su definición y posterior desarrollo, pero sus amplios márgenes, y las múltiples dimensiones involucradas en su concepción, dificultan una integración definitoria. A través de este artículo se busca realizar un análisis de los conceptos de equidad y salud, esbozar una definición integral de ellos y lo necesario de su logro en la actualidad. Realizando una breve definición y especificación de los conceptos implicados en su consecución, pasando por la idea de justicia y las obligaciones del ámbito gubernamental –a través de las políticas sociales–, se espera precisar lo que la disciplina bioética puede aportar en lo que representan los desafíos que restan aún por alcanzar. Finalmente se realiza una reflexión desde el plano de la bioética sobre el estado de la equidad en salud, proponiendo una posible línea de intervención de connotación social, puntualmente, desarrollada desde el nivel de atención en salud.

ABSTRACT

As a concept, equity has been systematically treated from many different perspectives that have made efforts to agree on its definition and later development, but the wide margins and the multiple dimensions involved on its conception make more difficult a definitive integration. By this article, it intends to make an analysis of the concepts of health and equity, sketch a comprehensive definition of them and what it needs to its achievement in the present. Making a brief definition and specification of the concepts involved in their achievement, going through the idea of justice and the obligations at government level –through social policies–, it is expected to specify what bioethics discipline can bring to represent the challenges that remain yet to achieve. Finally, it makes a reflection from the field of bioethics about the state of health equity by suggesting a possible and feasible course of action of social, promptly, developed from the level of health care.
